What is billed separately

Published here rather than buried in a quote, because this is where most people get caught out.

The food itself
Groceries are sourced and handled entirely by us, then billed separately at cost with receipts. Your daily rate covers the chef, the assistant and all the work — not the price of the ingredients.
Tax and service
IDR 1,000,000++ is IDR 1,210,000 all-in — 11% government tax and 10% service charge added to the listed price.
Premium ingredients
Lobster, imported wagyu, oysters and similar sit outside a normal market budget. We price them for you and get your approval before buying anything.
Alcohol
Not included, but we will source it for you at cost like any other ingredient. Add a private bartender or sommelier if you want the service side handled too.

Ingredients & sourcing

We do the shopping. You only pay what it cost us.

This is the part people misunderstand, so here it is plainly. Sourcing your food is a job we do for you — planning, markets, suppliers, carrying it — and that work is already paid for in your day rate. What is billed separately is the food itself, at exactly what we paid for it.

We plan and shop it — all of it

You never go to a supermarket, write a list, or carry a bag. Your chef plans each menu, decides what is needed, and does the run before service.

Fresh every day or every second day

Nothing is bulk-bought and left sitting in a villa fridge for a week. We shop to the menu, on the rhythm the food needs — daily for fish and greens, every second day where it makes sense.

Different markets for different things

Fish from the coast, produce from the highland markets, specialist and imported items from the suppliers who actually stock them. One shop does not cover a good menu, so we do not pretend it does.

You pay what we pay — nothing added

Groceries are billed at cost, no markup. Every receipt is handed over. We do not mark food up, and we do not take a supplier commission — the sourcing work is already covered by your day rate.

Fresh Balinese market produce sourced that morning by a myCHEF private chef
A normal morning shop. Sourced to the menu, not to a shopping list you had to write.

Why we do it this way. Most chef services in Bali fold an ingredient budget into the headline price, which means you cannot see what your food actually cost — and you have no way of knowing whether the markup is 10% or 40%. We separate the two so the day rate is honest and the food is at cost. What your groceries come to depends entirely on the menu you choose, so we build the estimate with you before your stay rather than publishing a number that would not apply to you.

Our chefs

A specialist head chef for every cuisine.

Most agencies send whoever is available. We do not. Each cuisine has its own head chef who has cooked it for years — so if you want Japanese on Tuesday and Balinese on Wednesday, you get the person who actually specialises in each one.

Is hiring a private chef in Bali worth it?

For two people taking one dinner a day, a private chef is a treat rather than a saving — IDR 1,000,000++ plus groceries against a restaurant bill of maybe IDR 600,000. You are paying for the villa setting, the tailored menu and not having to book a car.

For a group, the maths changes completely. Six people on two meals a day is IDR 1,800,000++ for the chef team, which is around IDR 300,000 each for the day before food. A single mid-range dinner for six in Seminyak costs more than that, and you still have breakfast to sort out. By the time you are eight or ten people, a chef is comfortably cheaper than eating out and considerably less hassle.

The other thing worth naming: the marketplace platforms quote per person per event, which looks cheaper on a landing page because it is a different product. Those bookings are a single freelance chef, cooking one meal, usually without table service or a second pair of hands. Our rate is a chef and an assistant, for a full day, with service and cleanup — which is why it is a day rate and not a headcount.

Worked example — family of six, seven days

Two meals a day at the weekly rate: IDR 1,620,000++ per day = IDR 11,340,000++ for the week, or IDR 13,721,400 all-in. Groceries on top at cost. That is roughly IDR 326,700 per person per day for the chef team.

Private chef Bali — frequently asked questions

From IDR 1,000,000++ per day for one meal, IDR 1,800,000++ for two, IDR 2,700,000++ for three. That is per day, for one chef plus a dedicated assistant at your villa. Weekly bookings take 10% off the daily rate and monthly bookings take 20% off. Groceries are sourced by us and billed separately at cost with receipts.
Send us your villa location, your dates and how many people are staying. We reply within two hours with an available head chef, a sample menu and the all-in total. A 50% deposit confirms the dates. You do not need to own the villa — most of our guests are renting.
IDR 1,000,000++ is IDR 1,210,000 all-in — 11% government tax and 10% service charge added to the listed price. Every quote we send states the full all-in total, so there is never a surprise at the end.
Whichever you want, and you can change it day to day. Most guests take dinner. Families with young children often take breakfast and dinner and eat out at lunch.
We do — all of it. Your chef plans the menu, works out what is needed and shops for it, fresh, every day or every second day depending on what the food requires. Fish comes from the coast, produce from the highland markets, specialist items from the suppliers who stock them. You never see a supermarket. The shopping work is included in your day rate; the cost of the food itself is billed separately at what we paid. Groceries are billed at cost, no markup and every receipt is handed over.
Yes. We run separate head chefs for Italian and Mediterranean, Japanese and seafood, Indonesian and Balinese, BBQ and open flame, plant-based and wellness, and pastry. Tell us what you want to eat and we match the specialist rather than sending whoever happens to be free.
The chef comes to you. They cook in your villa kitchen, serve at your table, and clean up before they leave. It works in a rented villa, a private residence, a long-stay apartment or an Airbnb — we only need a working kitchen.
All of it. Seminyak, Canggu, Ubud, Uluwatu, Jimbaran, Nusa Dua, Sanur, Denpasar, Pererenan, Berawa, Umalas and everywhere between, with no travel surcharge across South Bali. Remote areas such as Amed, Lovina and Munduk carry a distance component that we quote upfront before you commit.
Three to seven days is comfortable for most dates. For July, August, Christmas and New Year, book two to four weeks out — those dates fill first.
A 50% deposit confirms your dates, with the balance due the day before the event. Cancellations made 14 or more days before the event receive a full refund. Cancellations between 7–13 days before receive a 50% refund. Cancellations less than 7 days before are non-refundable.
For groups, usually yes. Two meals a day is IDR 1,800,000++ for the chef team however many of you there are — split across six people that is roughly IDR 300,000 each for the day, plus food at cost — less than one mid-range restaurant dinner in Seminyak, and you are not booking taxis or tables.
Yes, at no extra cost. Vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, halal-sensitive, nut allergies and children’s menus are all routine. Tell us before we plan the menu rather than on the day, and we build around it.
