A Bali week and a Lombok week are not the same dining problem. In the south of Bali you can be ten minutes from a full restaurant street. On Lombok, and especially on the Gili Islands, the villa is often the plan. Hiring a private chef in Gili and Lombok only works if each stop is briefed on its own. One confirmation does not reserve the boat for the next island.
People usually split the trip in one of three ways. A few nights on the mainland, then Gili Trawangan. A quiet Gili Air finish after a busier island. Or Lombok only, with the Gilis as a day on the water. The food plan should follow that, not a single “island package” that pretends the fridge and the ferry are the same everywhere.
Restaurant tables on the Gilis can be excellent and they can also be full, loud, or repetitive by the fourth night. A private meal is not a claim that restaurants are bad. It is a way to eat at the villa when the group is tired, celebrating, or feeding children on a clock. The kitchen still has to be real. A pretty deck with a kettle is not a catering kitchen.
