How gluten-free catering works for a Bali villa event

How gluten-free catering works at a Bali villa event: what to tell us, how buffet, plated, BBQ and drop-off menus adapt, and how coeliac guests are handled.

How gluten-free catering works for a Bali villa event

Gluten-free catering at a Bali villa works best when you name every gluten-free and coeliac guest at booking, so the menu is built around naturally gluten-free dishes, labelled clearly and prepared separately. Our catering for villa events across Bali covers buffet, plated, BBQ and drop-off menus, and each one adapts for gluten-free guests.

This guide explains what to tell us, how each format handles gluten-free guests, where gluten tends to hide in a Bali menu and what to check before you confirm.

TL;DR
  • Tell us about gluten-free and coeliac guests when you book, not on the day.
  • Buffet dishes carry dietary labels, including GF.
  • Plated menus design gluten-free courses per guest and plate them separately.
  • Drop-off orders label gluten-free meals separately in the same order.
  • Coeliac guests should send complete written requirements before the event.

What to tell us when you book

Gluten is easiest to handle when it is planned into the menu from the start. Share how many guests eat gluten-free, whether anyone is coeliac or simply avoids gluten by choice, and any other allergies at the same table. For company and retreat groups we use a dietary intake form, and the kitchen is briefed against the real guest list.

  1. The number of gluten-free guests, and their names for a plated dinner.
  2. Who is coeliac and who avoids gluten by preference.
  3. Other allergies, such as nuts, dairy, shellfish or sesame.
  4. Children with allergies or intolerances.
  5. Your date, guest count, villa area and the format you like.

Gluten-free by catering format

Every format can include gluten-free guests. What changes is how the food reaches them. Prices shown ++ have 11% government tax and 10% service added on top.

Format How gluten-free works Starting point
Buffet Every dish labelled with dietary markers (V, GF, NF, spicy); dietary dishes prepared separately where required From IDR 475,000++ per guest, standard from 30 guests
Plated dinner Gluten-free courses designed per guest and plated separately From IDR 850,000++ per guest, from 5 guests
Villa BBQ Same allergy process; ask about marinades, sauces and sides when you confirm the menu From IDR 700,000++ per guest, from 8 guests
Drop-off Gluten-free meals in the same order, confirmed before preparation and labelled separately From 4 guests for the family dinner package

Plated service is the most precise option for strict diets, because each course is made for a named guest. On a buffet, dietary guests eat from the same line as everyone else, with labels doing the work, so nobody is singled out.

Where gluten hides in a Bali menu

Bread, pastry, pasta and cake are the obvious sources. The less obvious ones are what a careful menu checks:

  • Soy sauce and kecap manis, which usually contain wheat.
  • Batters and crumb coatings on fried dishes.
  • Wheat noodles, as opposed to rice noodles.
  • Some stocks, gravies and ready-made sauces.
  • Croutons, crackers and crisps used as garnish.

On our gluten-free retreat menus, wheat is replaced with rice, quinoa, buckwheat and root vegetables, with bread and pastry alternatives, and the same swaps suit a one-night event. Steamed rice, grilled fish and meat, salads and many Indonesian vegetable dishes make an easy base.

Planning a menu with gluten-free guests?

Send your date, guest count, villa area and how many guests are gluten-free or coeliac. We reply within 1 hour and follow with a written menu proposal.

Coeliac guests and cross-contact

Coeliac disease is treated with the same care as a severe allergy. Allergy-safe meals are prepared separately with clean utensils, and dishes are labelled. For severe allergies we may confirm an emergency plan with you before the event.

We take reasonable precautions, but no villa or venue kitchen can be completely allergen-free, particularly a third-party villa or venue kitchen. Guests with coeliac disease or a medically prescribed diet should send complete written requirements before the event, so the plan is agreed in writing.

Retreats and multi-day groups

For longer programmes, gluten-free is planned across every meal, not one dinner. Our gluten-free retreat menus include a plant-based option that is gluten-free throughout with no refined sugar, for groups of 10 to 40. For company groups, catering for company events tracks diets per dish, per guest and per day across multi-day events.

Children with gluten intolerance

Our kids menus list what each menu contains, including where wheat sits, so you can see at a glance which dishes need swapping. Tell us the child's age and needs when you book and we adjust the menu.

Questions to ask before you confirm

  • Which dishes on the proposal are gluten-free as written, and which are adapted?
  • Are sauces, marinades and dressings checked too?
  • How will gluten-free dishes be labelled on the day?
  • Is there a gluten-free bread or dessert alternative?
  • Is gluten-free the same price? With us it is: gluten-free menus cost the same as the standard menu, with no surcharge.

You get a full menu proposal with exact pricing before you pay anything, so every answer is in writing. For other dietary planning, read pork-free or halal menus for a villa event.

Booking notice

Normal notice for BBQ and buffet is 3 days, and 2 days is fine. Next-day is sometimes possible if you message us first, and we do not take bookings for the day you message. Drop-off can often be arranged for the next day if ordered by 4pm. Allow 2 weeks or more for weddings and large events.

FAQ

Can you cater a fully gluten-free event?

Ask for it when you book. Our plant-based retreat menus are already gluten-free throughout, and other menus can be built around rice, quinoa, buckwheat, potatoes and root vegetables, with bread and pastry alternatives.

Is gluten-free food labelled on a buffet?

Yes. Every buffet dish carries a clear label with dietary markers, including V, GF, NF and spicy, and dietary dishes are prepared separately where required.

Is catered food safe for a coeliac guest?

Coeliac disease is treated with the same care as a severe allergy: separate preparation, clean utensils and labelled dishes. No villa or venue kitchen can be fully allergen-free, so coeliac guests should send complete written requirements before the event.

Can you handle gluten-free and other allergies at the same event?

Yes. We accommodate gluten-free, nut-free, dairy-free, shellfish-free and other allergies in one menu. Tell us about each one when booking so we can plan safe prep and plating.

Can drop-off catering be gluten-free?

Yes. Gluten-free meals can sit in the same drop-off order as everyone else, confirmed before preparation and labelled separately. Order by 4pm for next-day delivery.

How much notice do you need?

Normal notice is 3 days and 2 days is fine. Next-day is sometimes possible if you message us first, and we do not take bookings for the day you message. Allow 2 weeks or more for weddings and large events.
