How far in advance should you book a private chef in Bali?

How far ahead to book a chef in Bali: 3 to 5 days minimum, no same-day bookings, notice for parties, proposals and weddings, and how to secure a date.

How far in advance should you book a private chef in Bali?

Book a private chef in Bali at least 3 to 5 days before your first meal, and earlier for celebrations, big groups and busy holiday weeks. We do not take same-day bookings, because a good meal needs shopping, a scheduled team and a look at your villa kitchen. When you are ready, you can book a private chef for your villa on our homepage; this guide helps you pick the right timing first.

Below you will find recommended lead times by type of booking, what happens in those days, and how to secure a date even before every detail is decided.

TL;DR
  • Minimum notice is 3 to 5 days for any booking. Same-day bookings are not possible.
  • Book one to two weeks ahead for parties, two to four weeks for proposals, and as early as possible for weddings and large events.
  • Your date is confirmed when the 50% deposit is paid. The balance is due the day before service.
  • Urgent last-minute bookings, when possible, can require full payment upfront.
  • You can confirm the date first and finalise the menu later.

Why does a private chef need 3 to 5 days’ notice?

A private chef booking is more than a person turning up to cook. In the days before your meal, your coordinator agrees the menu with you, the chef and assistant are scheduled for your date, groceries are bought for your menu, and we check the villa kitchen so the chef knows what is there. Dietary needs and allergies are planned into the menu, not improvised on the night.

That is why we need at least 3 to 5 days and why we do not take same-day bookings. It protects the quality of the meal, and it protects you from a rushed menu built on whatever was available that afternoon.

How far ahead should you book each type of service?

What you are booking Recommended notice
Full-day chef for a villa stay At least 3 to 5 days before the first day; earlier for long stays and holiday weeks
A dinner or BBQ for family and friends At least 3 to 5 days; one to two weeks for weekends
A birthday or villa party One to two weeks, more for large groups
A romantic dinner for two At least 3 to 5 days; earlier for a specific date such as an anniversary
A proposal dinner Two to four weeks is comfortable
Catering for 30 guests or more A few weeks, so the team and equipment are reserved
A wedding or company event As early as you can, ideally a month or more ahead

These are recommendations, not rules. If your date is closer than this, message us and we will tell you honestly what is possible.

“The earlier we know your date, the more choice you have: of chef, of menu and of how the evening is set up.”

Can you book a private chef for the same day?

No. Same-day bookings are not possible with myCHEF. If you are already in Bali and decide you want a chef, message us as soon as you can with your date, villa area and guest count, and we will look at the first date we can do well.

For dates only one or two days away, an urgent booking may be possible if a team is free. Urgent last-minute bookings can require full payment upfront, because the team, shopping and travel have to be arranged at once.

Which dates fill first?

Weekends and public holidays are always in demand, and so are the school holidays and the weeks around Christmas and New Year. Celebrations cluster on Friday and Saturday evenings. If your stay falls in one of those windows, or you have a fixed date such as a birthday or anniversary, book as early as you can.

How do you secure a date before everything is decided?

You do not need a final menu to book. Send us the date, villa area and an estimated guest count, and we will send a written quote for the service you want. Your date is confirmed when the 50% deposit is paid, and the balance is due the day before service.

After that, we work on the details with you: the menu, the timing, children’s food, allergies and any surprises. Changes in guest numbers are fine as long as you tell us early; larger changes can mean a new quote. Cancellations follow our cancellation policy.

Have a date in mind?

Send your date, villa area and guest count. We will check availability and send a written quote.

What should you have ready when you book?

  1. Your date or dates, and the time you want to eat.
  2. The villa name or area.
  3. Number of adults and children, with children’s ages.
  4. The kind of service: a full-day chef, one dinner, a BBQ or catering.
  5. Allergies and dietary needs, by guest.
  6. The occasion, if there is one.

What does a week-long stay look like?

For longer stays, the timing matters most for the first day. Book at least 3 to 5 days before you arrive so the first meal can be ready when you are. A full-day chef is IDR 2,700,000++ a day for a chef and assistant, with three meals a day and groceries at cost; from 7 days the day rate drops 10%, and from 28 days it drops 20%. Our guide to planning a week of villa meals shows how a week fits together.

What if your plans change after you book?

Plans in Bali move: flights change, a day trip runs late, a few more friends arrive. Tell your coordinator in the same WhatsApp thread as soon as you know. A new time or a small change in guest numbers is usually easy to handle when we hear about it early. A new date depends on availability, and bigger changes can mean an updated quote. If you need to cancel, the terms on our cancellation policy apply, counted from your service date.

FAQ

Can I book a private chef for today?

No. We do not take same-day bookings. A good menu needs shopping, a chef and assistant scheduled for your date, and a check of the villa kitchen.

What if my date is only one or two days away?

Message us anyway. If a team is free, an urgent booking may be possible, and urgent last-minute bookings can require full payment upfront.

When is my date actually confirmed?

When the 50% deposit is paid after you accept the written quote. The balance is due the day before service.

Can I book now and decide the menu later?

Yes. Many guests confirm the date first and finalise the menu closer to the day. Tell us about allergies and dietary needs early, because they shape the shopping.
