Private chef pricing in Bali is only confusing when quotes mix day rates, per-person menus, unmarked groceries and silent “++” charges. The 2026 model: a full day of staff, not one meal

Stay chef starts at a full day of staff. You get three meals; use each as breakfast, lunch or dinner however you want — including three breakfasts. One lunch, dinner or party is catering (food included). We inspect the villa and kitchen first so the kitchen meets our standard; we arrive with the team, not a full catering kit — that setup is not done for one meal.

• Full-day stay chef (the stay product) — IDR 2,700,000++ per day (11% government tax and 10% service charge additional). Three flexible meals.
• One lunch, dinner or party — catering, food included. Not a stay-chef SKU.
• Historic one-meal / two-meal day rates are not sold as stay-chef plans — stay chef is full-day only at IDR 2,700,000++.

Included in the service fee: professional chef and assistant, menu planning for the booking, cooking, service of those meals, and kitchen cleanup for the service. Not included: groceries (see below), premium event staffing, specialty rentals, or separate catering formats for large parties.

What “++” means in rupiah

In Bali hospitality, ++ means government tax and service are added on top of the published rate:

• 10% service charge
• 11% government tax (Indonesian VAT) — official rate published by Indonesia's Directorate General of Taxes
• Combined multiplier: × 1.21 on the base figure

Length-of-stay discounts apply to the full-day stay-chef rate only:

• Weekly (7+ days) — 10% off → IDR 2,430,000++ per day. 11% government tax and 10% service charge are additional.
• Monthly (28+ days) — 20% off → IDR 2,160,000++ per day. 11% government tax and 10% service charge are additional.

Groceries: at cost, with receipts

Food is not buried inside a mystery per-person fee on daily hire. Groceries are billed at cost with receipts — no markup. That keeps incentives clean: we recommend what tastes best for your brief, not what hides margin in a protein swap.

Directional grocery budgets (highly menu-dependent):

• Simple local menus for a couple — often a few hundred thousand rupiah per meal
• Family of four, mixed international menus — plan a wider daily produce and protein spend
• Premium seafood, Wagyu, imported cheese, specialty wine pairings — market prices apply; we flag these before shopping

Do not compare unlike products:

1. Daily meal hire — flat chef+assistant fee by meal count + groceries at cost. Best for household eating across a stay.

A romantic tasting for two is a different product from three meals a day for a family of six. Both can be excellent value in their lane.

Deposit, balance and cancellation

• 50% deposit confirms the booking and holds your chef and date
• Balance is due as stated on the proposal (typically the day before service for events)

Never pay a large cash amount without a written scope: dates, meal plan, ++ treatment, grocery policy, and who is cooking.

Service charge on the invoice is not the same as a personal tip. Norms are flexible:
